IPv6 Native
How 6connect does it
6connect’s infrastructure functions in a native IPv6 environment. We also provide dual-stacking services for IPv4 so customers have flexibility built-in. With our integrated network management, this means less headaches for your IT staff and a seamless transition from IPv4. With standard high availability routing deployments in all of our HIVE locations, you can be rest assured that the redundant network capabilities provide optimum routing paths for your data.
Why IPv6?
IPv4 as a standard has been around for decades. One of its inherent limitations is the lack of expandability of assignable addresses. Currently, IPv4 space is expected to run out within 18-24 months. To help mitigate the run out and provide additional features/functionality – IPv6 was developed.
IPv6 is a global network standard that provides a much bigger pool of addresses and additional stability in network environments. In order to have a smooth transition, IPv4 address space needs to be announced in tandem with IPv6 in a dual stacked environment. Serving up business applications in an IPv6 native environment lets businesses focus on their current operations and growth, while preparing for future IPv4 network limitations.

How does it help my business?
- A single assignment allows future expansion and current business needs (an address in IPv6 is 128 bits – which allows for 3.4×1038 possible IP addresses)
- Additional packet header fields bring more intelligence to traffic routing/handling – similar to QoS that is selectively implemented in IPv4 environments
- Permits true end-to-end connectivity and removes the need for antiquated protocols such as NAT
- Extended address format and condensed packet header allows for simplified network topologies and more efficient environments
- Enhancements to supporting Mobile IP and computing devices
- Additional multicast support for more efficient information delivery
How can my business take advantage of it?
Implementing IPv6 is well documented, but given current business priorities, migrating to a new IP standard may not be at the top of the list. One of the simplest ways to leverage IPv6 is to use a partner like 6connect to assist with migration, implementation and management.
